A Celebration of Thai Silk

The Armenian community of Thailand gathered at the Armenian Consulate lounge in Bangkok to meet with the award-winning Armenian fashion designer Kevork Shadoyan, who’s been invited by the Royal Thai government’s Tourism and traditional fashion promoting bodies, to represent Armenia and traditional Armenian dressmaking under the “Celebration of Thai Silk 2017” series of fashion showcases.

The reception was organized under the patronage of the Consulate of the Republic of Armenia and at the invitation of Mrs Sirin Artinian’ the spouse of the Honorary Consul Mr. Arto Artinian.

The event also marked the esteemed presence of His Excellency Ashot Kocharian from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, former Ambassador and currently Head of Bilateral and Multilateral Economic Cooperation Department at the MFA. H. E. Ashot Kocharian was coincidentally in Thailand to represent the Republic of Armenia at a regional conference organised by the UN ESCAP.

The congenial gathering begun with cordial welcomes, Mr. Arto Artinian welcomed all guests, thanking the attendees for their support, and gave a brief introduction about the designer and the scope of his participation at the “Celebration of Thai Silk 2017”. He also invited everyone to support the Armenian fashion showcase, due to take place within the forthcoming days.

In his affable speech, H. E. Ambassador Kocharian highlighted the role of the vibrant communities in Diaspora where Armenian cultural and traditional values are well presented with creativity and an ultimate purpose of promoting Armenian goodwill.

The fashion designer Kevork Shadoyan then gave his personal presentation elaborating on his inspiration, direction and motivation for creating the Armenian heritage inspired dresses.

In his words “… the curated collection of dresses represents the reincarnation of the Armenian spirit, expressed through a fashion sense and design aesthetic” adding “the dress patterns are derived from geographic armenian regions such as Armavir, Gyumri, Artsakh and Talin and portray the distinct culture and color spectrum of that certain region, reflecting or even visualy expressing the narrative of the historic, ethnographic and artistic heritage of Armenians”.
